Will I Really Benefit From Wireless DSL?I have been looking at subcribing with a new dsl provider for a while and during my research have noticed that many service providers are offering a free wireless DSL router. I don't really need one because I don't have a laptop and my computer is fairly near my phone socket. But, having said that I am a bit of a gadget freak and like the idea of having the option of setting up a wireless network. If I by a laptop in future I could sit in the garden and work on the internet until my heart's content without having to stay stuck in doors. This is very appealing but aside from buying a new laptop it would mean changing to a new DSL service and I am very happy with the one I have. I could of course simply buy a Wireless DSL router but am loathe to do this when I know they are being given away. So this leaves me in a bit of a pickle. What would you do? I have spoken to a few people who swear by their wireless DSL and say it is the best thing since sliced bread. Because I spend a lot of time working on my PC I am trying to convince myself that by working in the garden I will increase my motivation and productivity, but in reality I wonder if it will have the reverse affect. At first glance, using wireless DSL to sit in the sun and soak up a tan while working sounds like a dream job but when I look deeper into it I begin to have my doubts. First of all it depends on the weather. Where I live the weather is very unpredictable and there are only about 3-4 months of the year when I will regularly be able to go outside without wearing a coat. The other thing I have to consider is my neighbours. I am very friendly with them and their 3 children but i'm not too sure how much work i'd actually get done when there are 3 kids running around playing next door. I will probably spend the next few weeks pondering and dithering but I imagine I will end up getting a free wireless DSL connection simply because I cannot resist a gadget. Like many other males, Any gadget from wireless DSL to plasma TV's have the same effect that shoes do on females. Something lights up in the brain and we convince tha we want it, need it, or can afford it, even if we know deep down we could manage fine without it. |
