Summing Up Reviews On The Netgear FR114P

Having looked at the FR114P from Netgear I was quite pleased to find some fairly cool kit at a sensible price. However I do not own one myself and so have instead decided to give a summary of reviews from experts in this field instead. In my opinion, the Netgear FR114P router is brilliant! It comes with a true firewall, a print server, SPI (Stateful Packet Inspection), Intrusion Detection, and many other great features. It also comes complete with a free anti virus bundle and an installation wizard that makes setting up a breeze. So what did everyone else think?

Having looked at five different review sites I am happy to report that it has received four - five star ratings from all of them. The Netgear FR114P has been judged according to various factors including how easy it is to install, how reliable it is, range and connection speed, built-in features, and of course price. Starting with the latter first the average price comes out at $106 with the cheapest, found to be $92.99. For this very reasonable price you will find all of the above features.

Looking more at the specifications, it is a 4 port 10/100 Mbps, DSL/cable firewall NAT router. It is actually the only router of its kind that I have been able to find which includes good firewall features and it's own print server! Another writer states simply "finally I have found a router that's high-tech and pretty much installs itself. It is as close to plug-and-play as it gets". Also, if you are looking at compatibility then you will be pleased to know that the Netgear FR114P is very versatile. It works great with Novatech along with many other brands.

There is one small drawback however. I have found that the Netgear FR114P does seem to be a little vulnerable to electricity surges. I have found three reviews that rave about the product stating how fantastic it was but these three had also had to replace the unit after big storms. All were replaced under warranty with no questions asked and one writer and bought units for the workplace even after his personal one had failed in a storm. If people are still buying additional units even after returning a faulty one then there must be a very good reason. In this case, it's simply value for money. A high quality router at a sensible price.
