Should I Change My DSL Services To Save A Few Bucks?

I have recently been considering changing my DSL service for the simple reason of saving money. Part of me is a little reluctant, as I have had bad experiences in the past with poor customer service and poor connection, yet my current service has never let me down with regards to connection. Also on the odd occasion I have used their telephone support I have not had to queue for too long and they have resolved my issues quickly. Other advantages include the fact that I have no download limit and my connection speed is not capped. So I ask myself, if I have found a good service is it really worth gambling this just to save a few bucks a month? At the moment I am still in limbo. Changing DSL services would save me around $22 per month.

Currently I have my telephone and DSL subscriptions with one company, this costs me around $60 a month for both of them. I also have Sky TV, which is another $42 per month. So, in total I am spending an average of $102 on DSL services, SKY subscriptions, and Telephone Packages. I am nearing the end of my 'tied in' contract period and a friend of mine has told me about a new deal that has been advertised by SKY.

This deal would involve bundling TV, DSL, and telephone together and paying one monthly direct debit, which I work out crudely to be around $86, therefore saving $18 per month. This may not be a fortune but a saving is a saving. What bothers me most is support issues. Previously when I have had to call SKY for anything (subscription upgrades and general queries) I have had to go through an awful automated service and press 1 for this, 3 for that, 6 if you have red underpants, (joking but you know what I mean) and when I finally get to a queue to speak to an advisor I have had to wait up to 40 minutes! So I am thinking that if I use SKY for my DSL services what happens when I have a support issue here? Will I have to go through the same process and get past from one department to another on a national rate line? It's no good me asking SKY about this, as I'm sure they will tell me that their customer support is very good. But my DSL service is very important to me and I rely on it daily. I need to be sure that it is reliable, and problems are solved quickly and efficiently.

What I would suggest to anyone else in a similar position that relies on his or her DSL services is to do exactly what I plan to before making any decision. Get online and find people who are already subscribed. You will be sure to find reviews and forums where people will shout if they're not happy with the service. If I found out that that SKY's DSL services are better than the TV support then I may consider changing and saving that $18. If I am not 100% convinced then I think I'd rather play safe and stick with reliability for the sake of a few bucks.
